1993 M. Stanback M. Formicivorus RANA 26 May 1430-1510 Parked r watched. Saw some birds but no nestiness. What gives? Finch effect? 30 May 1315-1400 Spied, First From across Field. Heard "peck-peck-peck" From (I think) Side near road. Also saw a couple visits to other side. Little activity. Ah ha! Moved truck. Bird in the old separate doors Faces the road lowish ambush hole. Peck peck. Heard nothing when flushed. Must be eggs. 1 June 1400 Damn. Climbed r peeped. Empty...and still some old straw From the starling nest. 9 June 1230-130 Spied. Saw birds but no real nestiness. Some Flights (2-3) toward nest, but also several more into woods across Field (they were hanging out flycatching at the edge there). Hello-nada. Even crows were flycatching. (what, 4-5?) 12 June Removed & From Rant yesterday, r it looks like those crazy Rana & have moved over there. (I was trying to ID w binocs, so don't take my word for it yet... see Rant notes) Maybe there is a Finch effect here. Shit, that would explain why the NOBA & wasn't caught last time r why... but wait, they were all pre-incubating. Oh well. 1830 IDd 4 WDE, 9 DEM. One went into the nest hole. Another was picking green acorns! (gran Full) Roost: Maybe 1 in gran, heart 1 other by pool. So if the & are at RANT, why no replacements?
