I have seen very few Fawns this year
4 Aug Coyote (1) at Far Knoll (by Laguna Conejo) at 0740
24 Mallards in Laguna Conejo, Jackrabbit at Red House
My general impression now that I'm back is one of
Fallen trees - DKTW, CVI, MurrF. What gives?
5 Aug I see a deer between 1500+1800 lying in the sun
bobbing his head. I investigate: a Fawn from
this year with head wounds r major rump, rear
leg wounds. Can't walk. Mark J shoots him.
Big kitty kat - but how did he escape? Val heard
screams at 1500 at 10 pm last nite. Where's mom
left carcass under the trees by the creek.
Another general impression - the bumper crop ain't. Sure,
the live oaks are finally producing, but they're not
really loaded, And I've run across quite a few that
are aborting. My call now is "average year."
7 Aug The rabbit that's blind in his left eye (that I saw this
spring at Griffins) was up near Walt's today.
8 Aug Active brown towhee nest w eggs (3) in Tree between MRS
Office - old lab. (PS - it failed, eggs never hatched)
