(5 May) Set ambush in ravine hole. Valerie reports 3 birds
in ( & she thinks a 4th staged in the 91 nest hole)
I was going to do an ambush 6 May am but I
remembered Mike (the lap Do) doesn't work Wednesdays.
6 May Arghh! Birds show up but don't go in hole
7 May Val watches ambush while I chase birds in
that direction. 2 went in but later came out.
I am so miserable. Why didn't I get them on 5 May.
Why? What made me think they'd go in again.
Some lame fucking excuse about laps. Is this
postdoc even worth doing? It's so much
Fucking work, and the data's so pathetic.
10 May Roost watch: At least 1 bird into the century plant
11 May 0700 Bird Flushes From century plant
1210 " " . Must be a nest!
12 May I do a morning nest watch - looks like incubation
1345 Check nest. 3 Fresh eggs.
21 May 0915 Peep hole: 4 eggs.
27 May 1330 3 chicks, 1 (dead looking) egg. I put in the
CV2 runt (just Fed him a waxworm).
10 June 1300-1500 Banded 3 Knol chicks. This required top-
ping the century plant, then cutting a door, also
putting a lid on the cut above the nest. I
just hope the adults will Feed. There was a runtly
chick, but I don't think it was the CV2 runt. Well
shit, where did I get the idea that today is day 22? It's
day 17! But I saw a bird in the hole on 11 June.
