1992 M. Stanback M. Formicivorus - Misc. Groups RANA Crk Ranch 28 Apr 1645-1920. Granary still has lots of acorns. I saw a NOBA 9 and another NOBA (8?) in the granary. Pretty shy (make that very). Hello'd holes - nothing. Wait, wait. I move down the driveway o spy on a group in a huge dying valley oak down by the road o pond. Lotsa acorns + 5 birds 1835 Spot 9 KM = 2007. Roosting was confusing... it looked like → 1 bird in the nest hole. On my way out a bird was in the low "road" hole. 13 May OUTBACK: Yesterday Walt Found nest, peeped, 2 Fresh eggs. I came today (3 Fresh eggs [1-3]) cut open hole o set ambush For B.M. 1130-1538 Waited For 8. NOBA 9 visited (w/o going in) at 1206, 1244, 1322, 1410. At 1412 a banded 8 (didn't get bands - I was getting ambusher ready) visited (no entry). Both birds were wary about the cut and the ambush. I fear they are abandoning. Roost Watch: How depressed can I get. I left the ambush up since it survived gale-force winds this afternoon. However, I arrive at 1840 to find it dangling. I fix it o watch. A bird checks out the nest hole, but leaves. At 1935 I start climbing tree to secure the ambush, but I flush 2 birds out of a high hole! One eventually went to a hole in the next tree. Is this postdoc worth doing? Nothing works!
