1992 M. Stanback M. Formicivorus KOUT HNHR (17 May) 0900 While spying on FAAR ps, I see 2 Kout birds at a hole in a small dead tree SW of burn tree. Hole doesn't look great, but hey, a second visit as I write Time to climb. Faces SE...Well, this is the 1st good thing to happen in days... I Fresh egg! I probably blew it though..., by cutting it open - I shoulda just left it til later - they'll probably abandon now. Oh yea!, the 2 birds I saw at the hole were 9 or 1127 (pink). Set blind. Watch this afternoon. Hope. Damn, damn, damn, damn, damn, damn. Jim reports no visits to the hole. Why did I cut? Damn. 18 May Chill out. All's well, they just didn't visit on 17 May. Except the only 3 visiting the hole is 1754 (not on Fieldlist) 24 May 0950 Checked hole - empty! 1007-1027 Spied - no visits to burn holes (even though birds in that tree) 1035-1125 Spied From Hastings side. Saw 4 birds. No real hints anywhere. Maybe slight mate guarding. There was a visit to the monster hole 29 May 1520 Bird at the "junkpile" hole (the nest). I go over + climb it - empty. Egg tossing? Weirdness, 1640-1705 Spy. At one point a bird flew to a yucky low hole (E-Facing, just above the ambush hole, and more to E) in the burn snag. Anyway, it didn't go in. They're flying around together. At 1700 all 3 went to the "Bluebird nest tree" up around the 65 nest. I hollid but got nothing.
