1989 M. Stanback M. Formicivorus H.B. HWHR 19 Apr 1215 Hello holes - nada 28 Apr 0730-0745 Spy on uphill trees. I did see several ACW's leave the 'holy' uphill tree, but no one flew to it. 30 Apr 0815-0900 Spy From new cabin, Are they mate guarding. I see a group of 3-4 moving together, sometimes to the "holy" tree, sometimes downhill. 2 May pm Lynn reports mate guarding. 3 May 1030 Hello uphill holes, trad hole, Fence hole - nothing. 5 May 1400-1420 Spy From "barn". Not a bird. 13 May Walt Found nest! 4 opaque eggs. 15 May am Lynn reports Feeding during her watch. 1500 & in hole on arrival + he wouldn't leave! I climbed up, reached in + got him - and me without bleeding gear. I measured his bill (31.6) and put 2 black dots on his Forehead. Its 1085. I hope he doesn't need bleeding. C'est la vie. They'll be plenty of time for that after the experiment. RL=5.7 / LL=7.5 / RW=7.8 + unhatched egg (so slightly older than CVI). At 1512 a large tree fell in the direction of blm 1. A sobering thought. 16 May 1700 RL=10.5 / LL=12.4 / RW=12.8 / new LW=5.4 + looking good in WMFP land. I removed RL,LL, - RW to Chgo + added RL (CVI) and 4 Gazo kids. So now there are 6 kids (5 hatchlings and a sick 1 day old) 19 May 1315 & BL=16 / LL=15.5 / LW=14.4 / RW=11.6 / L=11.8. RL gone So all that work + they died anyway.
