Point Edward quarry
five miles north of Sydney
Dear Sydney July 23-1913
In the region of the great magnesian lime -
stone quarries in the Steel Works of Sydney one gets to see fairly once the Brindzon series. The
overlying iron has me a thick series of employ-
ment, layers more cemented breccias that
merely changing into red shales. Then follows brims
of thick bedded magnesian lime some of which are
these are at the top of the Brindzon formation (see obsd p. 253).

Calcareous algae are exceedingly common in many places but in the great quarries make a Torrejita kind. There are 2 or
3 forms. In one case one cannot make it out as what they were but in others it is
clear Pardoctin. I never saw before so much
Palaeozoic algal material. Some of the inter-

mediate grns are red shales.
No gypsum is associated with these lime,
but in the next stratum grading to the
north gypsum occurs. There were here just
only thin basins between land barriers or that
the facies is different in the ocean basin.
