Finally a little farther west the strata appear to dip gently to the north. Can this be correct? At mile post 599 over 7 m. the rocks have a reddish color on the surface. Are these Cretaceous? The newly made track as far as auto here partly up road rock that is red. These are at mile post 601. The railway is making a new round rail line - a cut off. On the hill side here I cannot see any outcrops and therefore no dips. At mile post 602 these red rocks or stratify start up and stand with a dip dish. Evidently to a young igneous series. The scenery about here is grand, found in peculiar eroded peaks. Red buttle anywhere. Apparently layers. 13 miles It is the first of the Alpino is the summit of the road Alt. 14484 ft. P'Avulotini 931. Might be a good place to prospect around for fossils for a few days on my return. Its 31 miles north of Mar- aathm. To the west of Alpino I seem to see the Teonuo sandstone again. Can this be? No. A few miles to the east of Celpino the hill hills are capped by a pale colored tan
