(16 Mar) ground. Some are split, but most seem to be opened through
the side [illegible] and some or all of the meat eaten
out From this entrance. Another oak just up the
road is currently Flowering. I continued past the
Linda Vista (move Acws) to a left turn for the
Instituto de Desarrollo Agrario. (Sign next to it is red
white r blue Union Irazu (Costa Rica - Canada) I took
this dirt road @ 700 m. I found roost trees, but
saw no birds. See map for more birds seen. Next
sizable (+ accessible) group seen was further on, past the
sign that says V. Irazu 9 km. Group here had ≥ 3
on the SE side of the road ≥ 2 on the NW
side: 2 groups? I turned around
shortly after this, at Km post 24. The habitat
gets very good at this point - more trees than
open but still both. It's now 1740. There's a
"sort of" roost tree - guany? abd? just across
the road from post 24. I'll try to get a photo
1400 Back at Bluff. Lone oak (connected to curve oak acorn
by wire) has sapsucking holes - some look fresh. There
are ≥ 4 birds here now. 1 bird flew into curve
oak but was displaced with a growl by another bird
1415 At Ravine, a bird is throwing chips out of hole.
1530 Are those storage holes on the mid hit dead branch
on the big spindley tree on the bluff? They look like it,
but they don't look in great shape. No interest in them yet,
the birds are in the tree. Some chasing here too.
