1988 M. Stanback M. Formicivorus FAAR H/NHR (23 May) I Found some baby woodpecker feathers below the nest. They must have been predated. 27 May 1100 Peeped lower hole - 3 eggs. But they've deepened it and I can't reach. 28 May 1430 Added chips to get to eggs (4 of em) 9 Jun 1300 Only 3 eggs now, and 2 are inf. The one that looks OK isn't even pipping (and should have hatched yesterd) 10 July 1245 Still not hatched - no one in hole. Failed (?) 14 Jun 1345 New Nest (?) Bird in E Facing hole in the other tree. Hole is the one where the limb gets fat. 15 Jan 1340. No one in hole on arrival. Climbed + peeped. Empty, but does have 'Fresh' chips. Did I hear a juv. 22 Jun 1315 Bird From r to hole - and I brought no saw. 25 Jun 1440 Peeped hole - empty, but Fresh chips. No one in hole on arrival. 30 Jun 1620 Hello holes - nada. 3 July 1330 5 July 1300 Bird in the new hole - but I have no saw. 6 July 1315 No one in hole - climb - no eggs. 10 July 1010 Hello holes - nada 30 Sept June reports & w/ incubation - like behavior in the higher nest hole. I climb it - empty. 1 Oct Acorn Count: 3500 E gran 100 nest tree 200 bat tree 250 snag NW tree 50 4100 total
