1988 M. Stankback M. Formicivorus DARK HOLLOW H/NHR 30 Mar 0910 Hellobed holes - nothing. 1145 Bird in Fall 87 almost-nest hole. Dec 87 Acorn Count: 2500 1 Apr 1500 Climbed & peeped - no eggs, but not a good peep. 2 Apr 0910-0836. Watched From W. Bird to 87 hole once. There are 3 birds here. They sat on a branch together briefly. It looked like maybe mate guarding - some following, a little chasing. (I saw a J(NOP) + 9 (MT = 1035?) 3 Apr 0830-0845 Watching From Far Knoll. Can't see any holes from here, but they did seem to visit the immediate vicinity of both holes (87 nest + 87 Fall suspect) 3 Apr 1550 Bird in 87 hole. 4 Apr 0830 Thought I saw a bird Flush From Fall 87 hole 9 Apr 1030 Checked 87 hole (no eggs, but good shape) and the hole below it (nothing, not as good, but OK). No one flushed from these or the Fall 87 hole 10 Apr 0850 Hellobed holes - nothing. (ditto at 1050) 11 Apr 1425-1500 Spied on trees For ½ hr, no hints. Hellobed - nothing. 20 Apr 1700 Hellobed holes - nothing. 22 Apr 1430 After spying awhile, a bird goes to the 87 hole. Soon after I arrive w gear and hello - nothing. As I start putting the rope up a bird sticks its head out - so that was the problem - they're deaf. 3 translucent but warm eggs - numbered 1-3. 25 Apr 1515 3 opaque, warm eggs. That's it.
