climate goes to show that where life is easily attain'd little progress is made. No doubt the climate has much to do with the lack of thrift but I think the prime cause is the absolute ignorance of the Mississippians. So much that even be made beautiful and useful for them progress is neglected. The people in the county are most scattered and depend upon corn and cotton. Nowhere does one see the northern gardens or fruit orchards. The ladies seem to neglect to ornament their homes and do not even seem to take to flowers. The pure home comforts of the north are lacking here.
