1987. M. Stanback 6 M. Formicivorus PLQE HNHR (25 June) no preds. At 1504, heard more alarm calling and saw Cooper's hawk in pursuit of an ACUR around r above the sycamore by the shed-bridge. The ACW out flew the hawk + got away. (Oh yes, the 1504 calls: First from bridge-syc, 2nd from nest area. The birds are not moving or speaking (still) at 1515. At 1516, I heard some pecking, but things are still pretty deaf. At 1518, birds began karating to e/o. The baby I am watching, didn't 'reactivate' until 1521. First wakas & Flight at 1524:30. 1530 Dominance: 1403 > 1404. (1404 was sitting beside adult w acorn, 1403 flew in, sat, then pecked 1404 who retreated several steps. About 30 sec later 1403 > 1404. Then about 1.5 min later 1403 > 1404. Thus 1403 >>> 1404 !! 27 June 1530-1545 Baby watch. 1403 >>> 1404. Also, one of the babies went to the water hole and found a squirrel. It karrited, was answered by an adult who flew over (info?) and bombed the squirrel. The baby copied and also bombed it. The adult (4) also bombed the squirrel when it was on the ground. 1645: Measured eggs: #1: 24.65 x 19.1, #2: 25.15 x 19.65, 3: 25.6 x 19.95 #4: 26.1 x 20.1, 5: 24.6 x 18.45 29 June 1015 Plqe birds at MacRoberts (compare to Y birds here last year) Anyway, baby 1403 was here w 9 MY-D, who I suppose could be 9 984.
