12 April 0900 Climb hole. 2 eggs inside. Labeled new one
#2. Shit, I hope the birds don't abandon because
of the workmen's power saws or hammers or
wanderings below the nest.
13 April: Eggs tossed
17 April 0600 Bird at hole
1700 1 egg in nest (#1)
18 April 1730 2nd egg labeled as #3 !!
19 April 0900 Only 2 eggs!
20 April 1700 3rd Egg labeled #2)
21 April 1800 4 eggs (labeled #4) Walter found only 3 at 0830
2 May 1500 Well, I had my chance to measure them just now and
I blew it - I guess there's anuf data out there on
egg size - lay order. Anyway egg #2 (thivel egg laid)
is pipping.
3 May 1330 Bad News. There were 2 chicks in the nest.
No other eggs or chicks. Both parts of both chicks
eegs were still inside (#1 & #2) Thus I'm fairly
certain the others did not hatch. I think they were
tossed. Question is was it the experimental 2 or
was this yet another case of "at-hatching tossing"?
