1987 M. Stanbach M. Formicivorus CV2 HVHR 8 April 1300 Saw a bird (♀?) w DG-Y/DG at granary eating acorn. Very bold. Was chased off vigorously by CV2 bird. No was on Left 9 April 1600 Climbed 85 nest hole. Starling nest start! I'll do an ambush 2 nite. Cyndy reports 3 birds that don't match the field list. New breeders? Is the NOBA 9 now a breeder for sure? Why didn't Katy do a decent census here in winter 86? Set ambush, but no one came. (Next nite too - dud) 12 April 0630-0730. Spying, hole checking etc. No luck. The canyon is full of starlings. One nest in the nice upright bole. There is one not so great hole in the granary visible as you walk in from Park (hw. 16 April 0900 And with some effort I find the nest. High in the tree on the underside of a horizontal branch. It's above a dead end hole, so it's a weird cut out. A bird went to it while watching and a bird was in it shortly later. Empty 18 April 1600 Empty. 20 April 1800 Empty. Checked 86 hole - starling start removed. 21 April 1700 Empty! Again! 22 April 1530 ditto 24 April 1430 ditto. Checked the 85 b hole. I was latrine/ (other I couldn't see in). Watched from hole blind for awhile. Saw nothing. 26 April 1300 Empty, but I watched w birds seemed to be going to that part of the tree.
