Sept. 24 (Saturday), Solidago ulmifolia, described by Willdenow from a Specimen in his herbarium showing broad leaves like those of S. patula ["folia radicalia exacte Chrysanthemi Leucanthemi"] but more deeply pinnate. Could it be S. arguta? Which Willdenow knew any from description? Gray Proc. Acad. xvii, 184 (1882) writes "Dwarf and scanty specimen of the Muhlenbergian species,". Bershebe Spgs. Aug. 12. Carex glaucescens. (nw.) The young pistillate spikes are erect, latera from vis pendulum; the reddish-brown staminate spikes are especially stick-up. An abundant species of the Cumberland Plateau.
