proximity at same altitude. Nov. 22 (Friday) Continued work on Tennessee plant. Sent a specimen of Amelanchier from Altamont to Liverpool. The Petiololes from Duluth are E. Drummondii as stated by Dunnell. Nov. 23 (Saturday) Continued work on Denton collection. The Blecharis Tuberculosa from Tennessee is var. 3. of Jorrey, with incurved not retorse teeth or bristles. Dec. 2 (Monday) Blecharis E. tenmissima Poeckl. was based on 2 coll- ections: 1) Sells (Brook) = E. minima; 2) Borters (Guadeloupe) = E. retroflexa. The Borters specimen was also included by Clarke under E. campbellii var. Schrenitzrei, which by Clarke was made synony- mous with E. prolifera Torr. This accounts for the appearance of E. prolifera Torr in South American literature. Dec. 3 (Tuesday) Bishop's Out-of-Doors College "What is a species?" $1200-/$ Continued with E. tenmissima, Nees'. E. Virisiparum was also apparently founded on the Sells specimen. Dec. 4 (Wednesday) E. sulcata. As previously stated, this name should be replaced by E. filiculis Kunth. E. tenniculosa is also a factor in synonymy, but it is difficult to say just what this name and E. Salzmanii stand for.
