1940 Sept. 10. Lechea (no. - ) from Manchester (2 mi. S.of/) Holgate Key. Rhodora 40: 49 (1938). Sept. 13 (Tuesday). Eupatorium purpureum grows from Local Flora. Three species: E. purpureum, E. fistulosum, E. dubium These differ in length of st--- anthers, and character of style base, latter smooth or pubescent. E. dubium has a strong aromatic fragrance. debitum purpureum Oblong, vertic 3-4.5mm long (aver. 4.0) 2.5-3.0 4.0 Saturday Sept. 14th. Lespedeza from Great River, L. I. Two kinds of purple Lespedeza are abundant; they can readily be distinguished from the train of L. Nuttallii. 1) Its deep purple. This plant has dark green put very rarely; two stamens (?) foliage, produces numerous for seed. One had a lateral fruits: L. Stueveii. insert (yellowish orange; no action). From the flower a sweet - but faintly scented. These fruits are spherical, unlike that in this new species, Exs.150! Great jobs sometimes at seed in presence; take great care the plants there are very pubescent and quite dif- ferent from those of L. Stueveii.
