Field book of L. Reinecke
When note written up to be returned to W. Stillman at Geological Laboratory, Cornell Univ (Ithaca NY)
(top right) (Postal of US. Post Office)
Topographic quadrangle . + sign.
Ct = Cottands. - Mo = Moravia
Br = Bryden - Hf = Harford
Ow = Owego - Ap = Appalachian.
1" Block marked 1-15 from upper right-hand corner of each quadrangle, across to left upper corner; and A to O from right upper corner down to right lower corner of sheet.
Location of section (to be marked) by sign of quadrangle. Number and letter of block on top of line i.e. thus Ct:2A.
Below the line place numbers 1, 2, 3 etc for the number of the sections in said block and a, b, c for the zones of such section; thus the first section made in Ct 2A will be marked) Ct:2A - a!
the successive 1.a.b.c rc zones of the section from bottom-up respectively
a, b and c etc - the next section made within same block would be Ct:2A 2.a,b,c.rc
In running a more or less continuous section indicates coming of line between its blocks, by change of number and symbol for the block as well as for the section; thus, going from Ct. 2.A to Ct:3.A indicates by changing from Ct. 2.A (any) x to Ct:3 A and in note, record that it (Ct:2A is continued) upwards by 1a of Ct:3.A. and that line between blocks, cuts the section between these two zones.
These collections were made for the purpose of having duplicate sets collected by different collectors - L Reinecke was assigned at expense of the Cornell University and instructed to go along with W.H. Brewster & Knicker, making collections over the same sections, the cost of supplies this accumulation to be the property of the Cornell university but to be available for comparison or other use by its geological faculty in working up the results.
