Once again, it looked sort of like a power struggle with lotsa chasing and vocalizat but there were Few real fights. The core group interacting were all LAMB birds, with an occasional intruder coming in from the periphery (quite a few peripheral birds). Walter says its mate guarding t the aftermath of a power struggle. 3 May 1530 Flushed a bird From the tree where last years nest was, but didnt see anyone in a hole. KOUT birds are hanging out very near this tree. I climbed up till to where the main granary is. 6 birds here - mostly interested in acorns - gave me a Few hints but I check 'em out next time. 7 May 1400 Found nest. In same hole as last yr (the obvious hole in the nice live oak just up from KOUT. 3 three-day old nestlings (one is a runt) 29 May 1000 only 2 babies banded here at Schwartz 23 June Nest empty (climbed) 16 Nov 1000 -1240 Census 299, I was 1028 (her mauve-W looks like LB-W) Also saw 1309, 1311. 1309 is male, 1311 is male.
