1986 M. Stanback M. formicivorus CVZ HNHR 7 April 0910-0945: watched group from a distance to check for nest. I suspect the tree where they're 2nd nest last yr was is the ticket. I suspect a limb on the W side of the trunk (opp of where was last yr) W here E last yr. The cavity which they used last yr seems to be occupied by a family of titmice with hatched young (on 7 April). Actually I'm not sure which hole it is - there are several close to e/o. 8 April 0815-0845 Spied on suspect holes - no action - well actually there was vegetation in the way and birds were there in general area - but helloing failed 10-1015. No success w hello. Titmice are nesting near woodpecker holes, but not in them. Its (tit) cavity has a smaller entrance. 9 April 1010-1025 watched hole. Nothing - may not be a nest after all. 12 April 1650 checked the tree again. No Flashes. 13 April 1015 Found nest :< in that tree.
