27 May 1545 Set myself up to watch new nest hole in
top of grove west of failed nest. Few birds
were about. None showed any interest in the
hole.
1615 Noticed birds showing "interest" in the
two trees together to the N of the failed
nest. I set myself in the chapparel. On
my way there I noticed a bird leaving
the area around a snag with two holes in it.
I watched these holes but no birds came
to the trees
1640 Three birds came to trees, very vocal.
Were following e/o around. They all 3
entered one of the holes on the snag and
waka'd while inside. Then they left the
cavity by both holes and left the tree.
At least one was a ♀. No more seen since
I was just using binocs and was hiding
under a chamise bush.
24 June 0900-1000 saw 4 birds at one time. The
nest has babies, but since the hole is
so big (horizontal branch), I couldn't
reach to count the young. Identified
