1985 Mark Stanback M. formicivorus Mac Flat Hastings Reservation 8 June 1020 started census. The birds are occasionally vocal, but hard to see (esp truck) 1050 quit from in truck 1050 - 1100 tried outside of truck. No luck 11 June 0620 checked nest (but didn't open it). There was no sign of young still in nest. 0630 begin census 0645 1082 garricked, then hammered, several times 988 seen feeding 1010 baby. Baby(s) tended to stay well hidden. ♀ would fly into dense vegetation with food, exit empty mouthed. 0830 end census 12 June 1015-1115 census: 1082, 988 1 garricked and hammered several times at one point. 19 June 1600 - 1750 census 1082, 988 23 June 1300 - 1415 looked for 2nd nest in area where birds seemed to be going during the censuses. Found several holes, but they looked old
