1985 Mark Stanlack M. formicivorus R1 Hastings Reservation 26 May 0600 checked nest (Walter), no eggs 0626 383 enters hole, but sticks head out after 6 sec. She bucks down once again and only for a few seconds a minute later 0630 383 leaves 0632 269 looks in hole, leaves 0640 486 looks in hole, leaves 0645 269 comes out of hole with something in bill. It doesn't look like an egg or the remains of same. It looked more like a shriveled acorn or a fecal sac or something. Furthermore, I don't know when 269 went inside! 0645 Right after 269 came out, 383 arrived and went inside. Then 383 came back and went inside. Then 486 came back and went inside. (I'm not sure about the order of 383 and 486, but it was nearly simultaneous.) Then 269 came out. Then 486 came out. I'm not sure about 383 0650 486 comes and looks in hole, leaves 0800 I left my scope and approached the tree. Upon arrival at the base, there was a NO10 bird sticking its head out; it flushed. Climbing the tree I found 2 normal sized eggs, which I numbered 1 & 2. 0831 383 enters hole 0832 383 sticks head out as 269 arrives, 383 leaves, 269 looks in & leaves
