1985 Mark Starback M. formicivorus Pipeline HNHR 9 July 0630-0730. Arriving I found Warp 5 baby 997 in the granary with an unbanded baby. They chased each other some. There were alot of scrub jays, Steller's Jays around and vocalizing (and crows too) I played the power struggle tape when no one was there (about 0645) but didnt get any immediate results. By 0700 more birds began to show up, vocalize, and chase. The unbanded baby(s?) certainly don't belong to Warp 5, for both the Warp 5 baby 997 and 8636 were seen attacking an unbanded baby. 2 different unbanded adult 81a were seen (I believe I saw them chase e/o also) An unbanded 8 (probably Warp 5 bird 5177) was seen sitting with other Warp 5 birds in the granary. Baby (Warp 5) 998 was seen for the first time since 850515. Baby 997 was seen initiating attacks on unbanded birds, leading me to think that Warp 5 was in general on the defensive. Also Warp 5 birds were seen in the granary itself move so than were the unbanded birds, who stayed move to the opposite side of the clearing from the road.
