1985 Mark Stanback M. formicworm PRARIE HOME FIELD HNHR 20 June 20 1600-1800 Found new group. They live in the 2nd gully to the right (if you're standing on the road). They have a large snag at the bottom of their area that sticks out into PHF proper. I found the birds hanging out near the top of the gully. There are at least 4 adults. I saw 2 unbanded ♂, 1 unbanded ♀, 1 banded ♀ (couldn't read bands); no babies seen or heard. Sky birds. 21 June 0815-1115 The birds never left the gully area. Last evening one flew across PHF, but now I realize that this was probably because when I played the Lucia tape, the bird thought there was an intruder from across PHF - this is where the nearest neighboring group is (I found them today too- however, they are less accessible than these PHF proper birds) There are many trees with acorn storage holes - many have acorns. The birds did not seem to concentrate their interest or activities to any one area, but they did give me some hints - there are roosting holes everywhere though.
