Hay Blom NEST RECORD
3 May Egg found at 0730 (26.8 x 18.7) (presumably laid by
♀711) in fereline hole removed by ♀604 at 1500 hrs
4 may ♀711 lays at 0555, egg carried to granary at
0630 or so (see Denise's notes) by ♀604
5-7 May No eggs laid, as far as anyone could tell
11 May Denise finds surprise nest in V0 in Blomquist ranch.
opened hole 0930: 7 eggs
① 25.6 x 18.6 ♀711? ownership guessed
② 25.3 x 20.8 ♀604 but separation is
③ 27.9 x 17.7 ♀711 sodistinct I feel
④ 23.3 x 19.5 ♀604 good about it
⑤ 26.1 x 20.3 ♀604
⑥ 26.0 x 18.6 ♀711
⑦ 26.8 x 20.3 ♀604 probably freshest
all of the eggs except ⑦ had enormous, bizarre air cells.
15 May Checked the hole 1700, Still 7 eggs
22 may Nestcheck, 1800. 5 healthy, 3 day old nestlings
(clutch must have complete on 8 or 9 May, at the
latest), plus egg ④ which failed to hatch. So
nestling skew is 3-2, in favor of who I do not know
Egg ④ contained a full-term embryo.
12 June Uphece for barding, 1200: 3 dead nestlings,
were ~ 15-19 days old at death. Hay Blom still
has acorns, too
17 June Bird looking out of 1982 second-nest hole
20 June 1000 (checked hole: 5 eggs ~ 4days old
(measurements on back)
