Mumme Melanerpes formicivorus Y Hastings Reservation 17 Jan ** GROUP UPDATE ** ① 848 banded as Adult 30 Dec 1982. 19 Feb Walking by 1130, I flush 3 birds, which prove to be 6669, 848, and not surprisingly, 754 (6cm / white 136cm) of SHill. Everyone looked quite friendly. 754 is probably "just visiting" but we'll keep a close watch here. 1 April Walking by 1 April, I find 754 wht-06-/m of SHill in the grassy, then 10 min later working on the half-completed nest hole on the knoll! Is he moving here for good? 26 April Weird Semi power struggle flare up here, 1700. 3 1800 99 (785, 786, 787), 2 1500 99 (675, 818) intruders. At first it looked like the 1800 99 were winning, and no sign of 848. However, around 1725 848 finally showed up, and with the help of the two 8 669 + 754 (!) the manage to regain control of the grassy by 1730. The 8 were very active in chasing the 9 intruders. Also saw a strong 669 > 754 dom interaction 11 May Swinging by, 0730, I see 3 birds (!), and I'm sure the extra is 754.
