Mumme Acorn Woodpecker Gate 14 March ** GROUP UPDATE ** ① 9685, 9788, 9789, 9791 left group 27 April 1983 ± week All 4 were around during power struggle 18-19 April, seen peripherally for awhile, then never again ② Gate (δ626, δ627, δ790, 9854, 9856, 9859, ♀NMB (1885), J927, J928) abandoned BLU 3 Sept 1983 ± 1 month. δ627, 9859, 9NMB, + both juvies seen 1 Aug. Gate clearly abandoned by 20 Oct. Some of the above birds probably disappeared before abandonment, but I can't say for sure 22 March 1000, I flush two birds out of squarernail flat, which fly across Finch Creek and way over to the far "westgate side" of Coral Field. Don't know if these are real Gate or Westgate residents, but the situation bears study 23 March Sharon reported birds here again today. 1430-1530, I find nobody. 27 March First watch here, 0900, since installation of artificial granary 24 March. No evidence of anybody here by 0930. Looks like the granary is completely full, too. 6 April (confusion here the last two days, but I'll tell the story.) ① 24 acorns remain at Gate granary, 0 at westgate, on 5 April. ② Looks like 5 birds here, δ626, δ627, ♀NMB, 9854 + 9859 I co-fired δ626 yesterday I co-fired 9NMB. 1♂ + 3♀ seen together at one time. Birds using both Gate + Westgate
