1984 R.L. Mumme
Acorn Woodpecker
Corral Viejo Canyon
9 March
**GROUP UPDATE**
① CV Grande -- a ♂717, ♂718 returned here in September
7 1983 ± 1 month, present in October with
a ♀NB and ♂837 (see Sady's notes)
② CV #1 -- abandoned 12 Aug 1983 ± 2 months
③ CV #2, OK corral -- Both need a bit more
work to figure them out. Sady saw a banded bird
on 16 Feb at CV#2, nothing much at OK corral.
11 March Quick look here, 0930-1130. No evidence of any activity
at either CV #1 or CV #2. At OK corral, however, I flush
a scritting bird as I walked up at 1040, but it had
not returned as of 1130. It perched for a long time
the trees uphill from the granny before flying off to the
east, up the ridge. It looked like it belonged here.
Also, at OKC it looks like the granny may have been
in use this year. Not true at CV #2
7 April A bit of luck at CV#2 0845-0920 I find
M / LPi-R / D6m
two birds; ♀NB and ♂849 Orange / D6m-LPi-R
from OK corral! Maybe more birds here. Also a
second unbanded ♀ chased vigorously by the other ♀.
The second ♀ then flew off toward Dark Hollow, where
♂84 was advertising vigorously earlier (see OH notes).
♂849's presence at CV#2 leads me to suspect that nothing
is up at OK corral. Heard no activity from OK corral
while at CV#2, and a brick watch here 0920-0940
indicates no activity + no birds at OK corral.
Whoa, Just as I'm ready to leave OK corral, a
