Acorn Woodpecker
1800
26 April Watching here, 1115-1200, I find ♂771 (evicted from
1500 by ♂297 & ♀601) but no ♂NB; instead, ♀648
is indeed here, and also no evidence today of ♂770
(though Philip saw him around here on 23 April).
29 April Arg! 1100, I find a ♂NB here, waking to herself,
with no evidence of other birds around. At 1500,
I return and give 1800 50 across, hoping to stagger
some permanent lay some residents
24 May Short watch here 0810-0830, with great results
♀193 Dblu/Pink/Dblu is back! One of the old ones,
and a workhorse ♀ at that. Also seen: ♂785 Blue-Yellow
♂787 Red-Yellow/M and ♂770 cBlu/LPi-rt-Dblu
♂771 Green-Black/, and ♂774 Yellow / Black-c Blue.
Just about a full co-tinset. It will be interesting to
see if they nest, and if all the ♀♀ lay.
13 June 1800 does produce a nest (5 eggs): See nest record,
Philip's incubation watches. But only ♀193 laid:
Shortly after laying, ♂785 & ♂787 turn up at a
power struggle at Plague
