R.C. Mumne 1983 Melanerpes formicivorus ARF 7 May Through sheer luck, while walking [illegible] down from the Arnold, I happened to glance up at a Valley Oak along the road, 50 M down from the Big Bend, and saw a bird looking out of a nice new + easy (with rope ladder) hole. Seems like a sure nest. 16 May Walked by again, 1030 t 1400, still a bird looking out. 23 May Finally ope-up the hole here, finding 3 babies, ~8 days old (one nestling was quite a bit smaller than the others. 4 June Banded 3 nestlings here, now Juvs 880-882. 882 was quite runtish.
