Melanerpes formicivorus
Road I
(22 April) if 9269 might not be laying in a different hole.
But I came back + watched here from 1445-
1545 this afternoon, and saw 9269 appear show
no interest in any other holes (the 81-82 hole
appears to be a starling nest, and I checked the
82 first nest hole at 0915, finding it empty).
Furthermore, 9269 paid a nice long visit to the
hole at 1500, so it is clearly the hole she
will eventually lay in. What will happen
tomorrow?
23 April 9269 laid a rat egg today, and threw it out herself
later in the day (see De-ise's notes, too). Details
of the egg watch are with Walter + De-ise
24 April 9269 laid a normal egg today, not thrown out by
anybody. Details of the watch are on the backs.
De-ise + I gave both 90 plenty of opportunities to toss
it before calling it quits.
25 April Walter reports both 90 laid at Road I today, taking
total clutch to 3. See nest record
26 April Checked hole 1530: 5 eggs, 2 new ones marked
+ measured. See nest record.
27 April Checked hole, 1630: 7 eggs. See nest record
28 April Checked hole, 1200 8 eggs " " "
