1983 R.L Mumme M. fornitivorus Road 1 19 April Successful egg tossing watch here, as at 0706 9269 flew out of the hole carrying a very small round runt egg, almost certainly laid by 9383, 0636- 0649 Although there was some uncertainty in egg ownership, I feel fairly completely confident that 9383 laid it because: ① 9383 was down in the nest hole 13 min, 0636-0649, a very good egg laying time. ② The egg was very round (marble sized + shaped), as are all of 9383's eggs. I'm also fairly confident that it was a runt ③ 9269 was down in the hole only 4 minutes before flying out with the egg, and at the end of the 4 minutes, she first looked out with wood chips, suggesting that she was not thinking about laying. ④ 9383 had an obvious abdominal bulge when she entered the nest at 0636. No such bulge on 9269 when she went in at 0701. It would have been nice to have been able to check the hole + measure the egg after 9383's visit, but I was afraid of scaring 9269 into laying elsewhere, as we did in 1981. However, I'm quite comfortable in saying that 9383 laid a runt, tossed by 9269. 20 April Another successful egg tossing watch (with a few complications). Basically 9383 laid ~ 0620-0645 (see Walker's notes) and 9269 finally carried it out at 1050 (see Susan's
