1983 R.C. Mumme 2 Melanerpes formicivorus Westgate (22 March) ♀♀, but that seems to be declining as they exchange wakus with some regularity. ② The 2 ARFtoo ♀♀ cooperating with the ♀NB are losing ground. They still control the high central stub, but the ♂♂ are less friendly with them. Even saw ♂58 take a peek at ♂798. Also, the ♀♀ do not seem to be chasing anyone, playing a much more "defensive" game. Not a good sign. The worst sign, however, is that ♀687 is either gone now or keep an extremely low profile. I saw her fleetingly at ~1300, but I've not seen her in an hour now. Is she injured, dead, or given up? ③ The Gate ♀♀ are still here sporadically, but seem undecided about whether to fight for Wbate or defend gate. They are shuttling back and forth, as "spillower" fighting erupts now again at Gate. ④ Saw a ♂NB (only 2nd ♂ intruder) fighting with ♂790 of Gate on the western periphery. 23 March 0820, the power struggle is over! 5 unbaaded ♀♀ are in complete control of the granary, and quite friendly with the males. The ♀♀ are expanding their control outward from the granary, and the only potential rivals are relegated to "the western frontier" 0845, I find a ♂NB and a ♀NB hanging out together in the sycamore down by Maggies. One of the Wgate birds (I suspect ♂692) came down and chased them some,
