Melanerpes formicivorus

(27 May) hole! Sure enough, I come back at 1730, open
the hole, + find 3 long + skinny eggs! I marked
them ①-③. Good! Glad these guys are getting it
together. I think I got just enough mate guarding
data on which to get by. Anyway, this means
that laying began probably on 25 May
2 June Checked the nest here, 0730. 4 eggs, all measured
and the 4th egg marked (see nest record). This
means I should expect hatching ~ 8 June, and banding
~ 30 June!
5 June Counted stores, 0800:
2° granary 10
1° granary 925
TOTAL 935
12 June Checked nest, 0945: 3 Nestlings ~5 days old, with
no sign of the final egg/nestling. See nest record.
