1982 R.C. Mumme Melanerpes formicivorus 1500 (27 May) hole! Sure enough, I come back at 1730, open the hole, + find 3 long + skinny eggs! I marked them ①-③. Good! Glad these guys are getting it together. I think I got just enough mate guarding data on which to get by. Anyway, this means that laying began probably on 25 May 2 June Checked the nest here, 0730. 4 eggs, all measured and the 4th egg marked (see nest record). This means I should expect hatching ~ 8 June, and banding ~ 30 June! 5 June Counted stores, 0800: 2° granary 10 1° granary 925 TOTAL 935 12 June Checked nest, 0945: 3 Nestlings ~5 days old, with no sign of the final egg/nestling. See nest record. 18 June ** GROUP UPDATE ** ① ⑨676 disappeared 10 April 1982 ± 1 week Last seen intruding at Buckeye 2 April 1982. Missing from 1500 by 17 April ② ⑨601 returned to Gate 24 March ± 6 weeks Seen being chased at 1500 on 8 March + 19 March, declared gone by 27 March (see Alan's notes) and back at Gate on 2 April ③ ⑨601 moved back to 1500 8 May ± 1 week last seen at Gate 27 April. Certainly back at 1500 by 19 May
