Melanerpes formicivorus

5 June A quick look here, 0730: ♂669 is here, as is a ♀NB. Both were hanging out in the Lower Barn locusts, and both were giving occasional garricks. Leslie reported ♀668 back up at School Hill, feeding the nestlings there, on [illegible] 4 June.
13 June Watched there, 1000-1100. A few interesting points: ① ♂669 and a ♀NB (the same one that has been here regularly?) are here in the Lower Barn Locusts. No sign of ♀714 at all. She may well be gone. ② ♀668 made two brief appearances, and seemed friendly with the ♀NB on both occasions. Once I saw her capture a tipulid in the Lower Barn Area, fly to the top of the Y sycamore, then take off (w/ the tipulid) toward School Hill. I presume she was going to feed the fledglings upon School Hill. Otherwise, I saw no evidence of a nest, and although I saw the birds working the granary a lot (and even the ♀NB moving a small acorn bit), they are certainly effectively out of acorns
