Melanerpes formicivorus
Y
(15 May) are now absolutely no ♀♀ here any more, I saw 2 ♀
intruders here, 9601 M/yellow, and a -other ♀ that F
thought for sure was 9649 Lm-black/white, formerly
of Blom 1. Looks bad here. Both 9714 + 9NB
have probably gone home. Shortage of acorns? I gave
them ~20 2 days ago
17 May 0650, a quick look here reveals 9669 and 9675
Green-whr/M
""/06am of 1500, starting to look as if she wants
to join up here. She garricks occasionally, drums frequently,
and is occasionally chased around a bit by 9669. Other
♀♀ seem to be around, too, so it's certainly not over yet.
I wonder what's happening at 1500?
19 May Bless my bones! Alan reported yesterday 9714 and 9NB back,
and sure enough, watching here 0745 I see both
9714, 9NB (surely the same 9855, as she is quite
friendly with everybody. Also, 9668 B1K-brown/131K, who
had been seen feeding young up on School Hill, is
back! Or at least, she put in a brief appearance.
Where could everybody have gone the last 5 days
or so? My casual guess is that the ♀♀ were participating
in a big PS somewhere, perhaps trying to move to a
better territory, with acorns? Impossible to know.
In the hope that now maybe Y will nest, again
I place ~25 mixed Valley Oak-Live Oak acorns in
the granary,
27 May Y is back to screwing around. At 0930 9669 alone
in the granary, garricking. 9♀ are probably gone
