Melanerpes formicivorus
Lower Arnold 2
23 Feb Counted stores here, 1230: As usual, they were spend
all over the place, but I counted 620 total
Also, saw 9637 LPink/BIR as I walked up. Also,
♂611 DBlue-wrt/6count, chasing a nuthatch
9 April Counted stores, 1400. 325 TOTAL
Nobody in any holes, no birds period.
26 April A nest in the back hole here: 3 eggs!
2 May Opened up the back hole here to find 5 eggs, marked
+ measured: See nest record for details. This
means that the clutch was probably completed on
28 April, so we could expect hatching by 9 May
and banding by 31 May
14 May Opened hole (seenest record): 3 nestlings (one quite
abit smaller than the other two) ~5-6days old.
Certainly 2 of these should fledge. Also, 2
unhatched eggs were present. One was infertile, rotten-
liquid center (I know, because I broke it accidentally.
Yecch!), and one contained a fairly well developed
embryo.
31 May Banded x bled 3 healthy nestlings See Nest
record & capture records. Now Juvs # 782-784.
7 June Counted stores, 1700: 225
