1982 R.L. Mumme Melanerpes formicivorus Fanny Arnold (9 march) an eye on both places. At FA, I see at least 4 birds. 2♂, 2♀, all apparently unbanded. Near keep out its a mess. I do find ♀567 M/Red and ♂705 in the trees about 50 m SW of the KO granary, but I also find shithloads of unbanded birds as well, and ♂100 Yellow-Down/Yellow DGreen. All seemed to be Sapgurking (or interested in sapgurking) from a Valley Oak in that area. (Sapsucker + Nuttall's woodpecker also Sapgurking there). Anyway, it doesn't look like the FA birds have certainly moved into Keep Out. 1300, now ♂567 back at the Al granary. See A notes Also, alan watches here, he sees a certain 2♀ and 3 (probably) ♂ So still a 5-bird group here. 10 March ** GROUP UPDATE ** ♂705, ♂706, ♀567 forced to leave group on [illegible] 8 Feb 1982 ± 1week. ♂567 and 2♂ (presumably 705+706) were last seen there 27 Jan. Appeared to have been gone for some time by 20 Feb, ♂863, 864, 865, ♀866, 867 move to Fanny Arnold 8 Feb 1982 ± 1week. Almost certainly forced the residents to leave 21 April A pass by, 1130: At least 3 birds still around, but these guys are decidedly marginal as far as stored acorns go. I would say that they are effectively OUT! One bird here is a ♀NB. A second ♀ in the granary is chased out after a minute, by 2 birds. 5 May A quick look, 1800. 2 ♀NB seen, and a suggestion anyway of a 3rd bird. Definitely out of acorns, well, very few
