1982 R.L. Mumme Melanerpes formicivorus Lambert 9 Sept Tried a double ambush here, but the only bird we got was ♀720 7 Dec Finally, a good watch at Lambert, 0945-1130. I find ♂546 Lbrn/DBlue ♀624 LBlue-Red/LBlue-Red M / Red-Yellow J♀ 775 D Pink/Yellow ♀720 Red/Yellow/Red J♂ 777 BIK/Llutt-Lbrn : All were seen well and repeatedly (at least 5X each), leading me to conclude that 545, 719, 7862(NB) or J776 have all disappeared. Lots of activity. The group was bothered throughout the watch by a ground squirrel that seemed to be gathering acorns from the fallen limb and carrying them to the north fereline tree (a hollow limb therein) and caching them. The woodpeckers mobbed it continuously, but I saw the squirrel make at least 5 such trips
