Keep Out
23 Aug I try one more brief watch here, 1800, Success!
In the Blue Oak Sap tree 30 m SW of the KO
granary, and in some adjacent Valley Oaks, I find
♀567 Red/Red, Sitting calmly & comfortably next
to ♂705 M/Red ! Great! KO looks for real!
I assume ♂706 is around, too. What's more, at
1830 I try to flush ♀567 toward A1, and though
she flew initially across the fence to one of the large
VO's on Hastings, she immediately flew back
to Keep Out when I tried to flush her further.
Acorn storage will tell us for sure, but I'm nearly
100% sure KO is occupied!
24 Aug ** GROUP UPDATE **
① ♂705 + ♂706 founded (as 1st year) Keep Out
All three of the Fanny Arnold residents. (♀567, ♂705, ♂706)
were seen at KO on 23 Feb, after having been booted
off by the invading NB birds. On 9 March, ♀567
was seen both at KO & A1, but ♂100 (of A1) was also
at KO, suggesting it was still "up for grabs" Still a
free-for-all on 9 April, but seemed to be settling
down to a legitimate operation on 8 May. Thus,
I would say KO was founded March 22 1982 ± 1 month
② ♀567 moved to KO 20 June ± 2 months
First seen at KO on 23 Feb + 9 Mar, but back at A1
20 Mar, 9 April, 18 April, 21 April, Missing from A1 on
27 June, 17 Aug. For sure at KO 19, 23 Aug.
