1982 R.C. Numme Melanerpes formicivorus Keep Out 9 April The area around here continues to be a no-birds land (see previous KO, Lambert, A1, F/t notes). Here at 1230, I see both the evicted FA ♂, 705+706 (M/Red-wht wht-mauve/M of A1), M/Lorn-06m, respectively), Q568 a ♂NB (FA? elsewhere?), and ♂100 Quite a mess. All this is going on in the area SW of the keep Out granary. 8 May A quick look, 1500, I find 2♂ in and around the keep Out granary. One is ♂706 M/Lorn-06m, and I would guess that ♂705 was the other. They almost look established here, other than the fact that they seem to lack both acorns or a ♀. What's more, I see one of the ♂♂ fly off toward the trees around Big Tree. Good! 1520, correction! It was a ♀NB that flew from the Big KO granary to Big Tree. This might be a real group! 3 June A casual look here, 1430, I can't find any birds around. 27 June A quick look 0645, Right off I find ♂705 DBlue/Red-wht in the trees 30m SW of the keep Out granary. Plus, I heard wakas when he flew further back. I suspect that Keep Out is legitimate! 19 Aug A tough watch here, 1700-1830: Hanging around Keep Out are still both ♂705 M/Red-wht and ♂706 M/Lorn-06m. However, they are still only "near KO" in the trees 40m SW of the KO granary. But with them I'm sure was a third bird with which they wakad several times, Walking back I got a brief glimpse of a bird? M/Red: Q567! Not sure, but would make sense.
