7 June Counted stores, 0830:
Valley Oaks 120
Odd branches 0
Sycamore 160
TOTAL 280
Nest is still active here.
10 June Checked the nest, 1130: Two healthy nestlings
~6 days old, an unhatched runt, and no sign of the
third egg-or-baby. No obvious in breeding depression
here, I'm afraid. Anyway 26 June would be a
good day to band these birds.
25 June Banded the two young here, now Juvs 816 + 817. Both quite healthy. See nest record.
20 July Brief watch here, 0800-0845. Both juvies are here:
J816 wht/DBlue-Green + J817 white-or/m or-wht/Orange, looking
hale thrifty. ♂66, ♂282, ♂501, ♀541, ♂542 also
seen. No juv dominance, but I did see ♂501 peck the
daylight out of both babies.
26 July Watching for juv dominant, 0830. Wow, almost instant
success! 0845 in the sycamore along the S side of the
road, 50m upstream from the bridge, J816 wht/DBlue-Green
gave two firm, separate pats (2 different instances).
to J817 or-wht/or. Adults were present at first,
but not during the second.
0950, again J816 pats J817, in sycamore, being
fed by ♂66, 1000 end. Good watch! ♂63, ♂66,
♂282, ♂501, ♂540, ♀541, ♂542, ♀543, ♂613, ♀616,
J816, J817 all seen well.
