1982 R.L. Mumme Melanerpes fornicivorus Road 1 6 June Watched roosting here, and saw definite M/ on the left leg as the bird went into the nest hole, meaning ♂486 roosted 7 June Counted stores, 0830 Valley Oak (1°g) 510 Sycamore (2°g) 5 TOTAL 515 8 June Roosting again. A ♂ was in the hole looking out when I arrived, but the head shape + pattern indicated ♂486 roosted 13 June Banded 4 Nestlings, 1330: The "funt" from egg (5) had disappeared (2° feathers, sheathed, found under hole, so his death/ejection/whatever probably occurred recently. Anyway, this means that the skucin nestlings banded is zero: 2-2! 18 June **GROUP UPDATE** ① ♂578 moved to Blom 2 25 April 1982 Last seen at Road 1 23 April, at Blom 2 25 April 4 July After thought on disappearance of the fifth nestling (see 18 June notes). My bet is that the nestling just plain fell out of the nest.
