1982 R.C. Munroe Melanerpes formicivorus Blom 3 8 Dec Alan has reported stored acorns (!) in one of the old storage trees [illegible] in the "hollows" between Blom 3 and Gazebo. At 1500, I con-c over a-d sure enough find 12 or so acorns in a large VO in the bottom of the hollow closest to Gazebo + CV Grade. This is where I saw a lot of wicker activity on 3 Dec (see Gazebo notes). Today things are quiet. At least 3 birds are hanging around here, though: A ♂ N/B, a ♀ (?) and ♂ Juv 768 or-Red/Wht-Red, [illegible] (of Blom 3). My current guess is that the birds hanging out here are all Blom 3 birds (they seem to be shuttling back and forth), and all the power-struggle-like action I saw on 3 Dec was territorial squabbling. However, it would be nice to get more Blom 3 birds banded. I watched roosting here last night and saw 3 birds roost in the "low" 1982 hole and 1 roost in the "high" 1982 hole. 9 Dec Very successful ambush here, netting 1 bird (♂ 839) in the upper hole + 5 birds (♂ 840, ♂ 841, ♀ 767, ♂ 768, ♂ 769) in the lower hole. This may be all the birds in the group, but watches are needed
