Melanerpes formicivorus
Blom 2
27 Oct I stroll by here at 1530, and finally find a few acorns stored in
the nest tree. Still none in the secondary area, though.
1615: After a long wait I see two birds, I'm pretty
sure a ♂NB and a ♀NB. Will have to ambush here
before long.
8 Dec I stroll by, 1430, reveals a ♂NB and a ♀NB. Still very
few acorns here, however. Also, I took a 30-min look
around "Cañon Vista" and it looks like the birds there
may have moved on. No sign of any wicker life.
On 3 Dec, while watching at Dark Hollow, I saw
a bird up in the CVista "roosthole tree" (see Walters
notes), but that could have been a straggler from elsewhere.
Also, the dead tree at the head of the CVista ravine
has fallen (probably during late Nov. storms).
