(15 June) (1981 1st nest) of the two holes in the tree,
not in this years failed nesthole. That certainly
makes a lot more sense. Also she saw ♀604 make
two long visits to the hole (see Leslie's notes)
At 0720, I climb up to the hole, re-open it,
then have to make one more cut as the hole is
now extremely deep. Anyway, After all that I
find one egg, certainly laid today by ♀604.
I measured the egg (24.6 x 20.4) but I didn't
mark it as I failed to carry a rapidograph up
with me.
I relieve Leslie for hole watching (after climbing
down from the nest) at 0840. ♀604 made a
couple of 4 min visits (one at 0917 and again at
0932) and both ♂561 + ♂562 looked in and
went in for brief moments while she was in. The ♂s
were guarding her closely! Unfortunately, no sign of
♂711 even in the nest tree.

The nearest thing that happened is that at
0920, ♀604 left the nest hole and flew to a
nearby branch where a ♂ was present. The other.
♂ had made the critical error of flying to the
granary while the ♀ was in the hole. Anyway,
♀604 landed on the branch with this ♂, gave a
brief tail-up precop display, and the ♂ immediately
the ♀. he gave a good tail twist, cloacal
