10 Feb Counted stores, 1330. 2185 TOTAL
Also took a sample of ~35 across from the granary
and replaced them with a roughly equivalent number
27 March Counted stores again: 1550 TOTAL
29 April Opened the high hole in the Poison Oak Tree, where
Leslie has reported a steady stream of birds. A real
bitch, but I find no eggs yet, 1200.
May 7 Afternoon Leslie reports incubation behavior here today (though
none on 5 May). Sure enough, I climb up to the
high PO hole at 1615 and find 4 fresh eggs. I
would certainly think 4 showed up today, but I
will check again on 10 May or so to make sure clutch
is complete, and to mark & measure the eggs. This would
mean 18 May would be a good day to expect hatching
and 9 June for banding.
11 May Climbed up to check the nest, 0845, and got a mild surprise
3 eggs! So one egg has mysteriously disappeared, early
in incubation. I don't know what to make of that.
Anyway, the 3 remainders marked & measured. Seenest
record. 1 in the hole incubating when I got there
23 May Nest check, 1800: A disappointment! Only 1 nestling,
eggs 2 + 3 did not hatch. Both unhatched eggs were
counted and undeveloped, so perhaps infertile.
5 June Counted stores, 1700: TOTAL 420
8 June A very nasty surprise here when I climb up
here with the intention of banding the nestling,
at 1300: After opening up the hole, I reach
