1982 R.L. Munne Melanerpes formicivorus 1800 8 April Counted stores: 1330 Fallen limbs 100 Odd spots 175 Main granary 925 1200 TOTAL 30 April After Molly's report today of an apparent end to ♀ guarding, I stroll out here at 1445 and sure enough, find a ♀ (193 I'm quite sure) looking out of the stub hole (unopened) in the granary. I climb up & peep in to find 4 eggs. One more might come yet, I suppose. Hole seems very shallow, and not too hard to climb to: will have to open soon. 3 May Opened hole, 1630. Still 4 eggs (see nest record) this means that the clutch was certainly complete on 30 April, meaning 11-12 May would be good for hatching, and 1-2 June for banding. 16 May Checked the hole, 3 healthy nestlings, 1 unhatched egg See nest record. 1 June Roosting: Though it was quite dark, I was certain that the rooster had 2 color bands on the left leg, meaning 8476 was the likely bird that roosted, 5 June Counted Stores, 0830: Fallen Limbs 0 Odd spots 25 Main granary 550 575 TOTAL
